The California Lightworks SolarSystem 275 is a compact 200W full spectrum LED grow light designed for smaller indoor gardens, propagation areas, tents, and greenhouse applications. Despite its compact 7 lb design, the SolarSystem 275 produces approximately 439 µmol/s PPF and is designed to replace traditional 400W HPS lighting while consuming substantially less power.
The fixture uses California Lightworks' programmable SolarSystem platform, allowing independent control of red, white, and blue spectral channels when paired with the optional SolarSystem Controller. Growers can adjust intensity and spectrum throughout the growth cycle, create automated schedules, simulate sunrise and sunset transitions, and connect multiple SolarSystem fixtures into one controllable lighting network.
With up to 5' x 5' vegetative coverage, approximately 3' x 3' flowering coverage, 90 to 277V automatic voltage compatibility, active cooling, and a 50,000+ hour component rating, the SolarSystem 275 brings the same control platform used by larger SolarSystem fixtures into a smaller format.
- Up to 5' x 5' vegetative coverage
- Approximately 3' x 3' flowering coverage
- 200W power draw, ~439 µmol/s PPF
- Programmable three channel spectrum with optional controller
Programmable Spectrum Control
The SolarSystem 275 uses three independently controllable spectrum channels:
-
Red Channel: Red and Far Red
-
White Channel: Broad white illumination
-
Blue Channel: Blue and Deep Blue
When paired with the optional SolarSystem Controller, these channels can be adjusted independently instead of operating from one permanently fixed spectrum. The red, white, and blue channels function like independent digital dimmers, giving growers direct control over both spectrum and overall intensity.
Full Spectrum From Veg Through Flower
The SolarSystem 275 is designed to support plants throughout the complete growth cycle. Blue wavelengths can be emphasized during vegetative development, while the red channel can be increased as plants move toward flowering and fruit production.
The white channel contributes broad spectrum output and provides more natural visible illumination for inspecting plant health. California Lightworks provides different recommended spectrum ratios for vegetative growth, transition, flowering, and finishing stages through its SolarSystem control platform.
439 µmol/s From 200 Watts
The current SolarSystem 275 is rated at approximately 439 µmol/s PPF from 200 watts, providing an efficacy of approximately 2.2 µmol/J. This allows the fixture to deliver substantial horticultural output while consuming roughly half the nominal wattage of the 400W HPS systems it is designed to replace.
The lower power draw also reduces the amount of electrical energy converted into heat inside the growing environment.
3' x 3' Flowering Coverage
The SolarSystem 275 is designed around approximately 3' x 3' flowering coverage and up to 5' x 5' vegetative coverage.
This makes the 275 particularly well suited to smaller tents, propagation areas, compact grow rooms, or supplemental lighting applications where a larger 400W or 800W LED fixture would provide more output than required.
Compact 7 lb Fixture
The SolarSystem 275 measures approximately 8.5" x 8.5" x 4" and weighs only 7 lb. Its compact dimensions make the fixture easy to position in smaller growing environments while maintaining the same programmable SolarSystem architecture used by California Lightworks' larger fixtures.
The smaller housing also makes it useful where overhead space or mounting capacity is limited.
0% to 100% Spectrum Control
With the optional SolarSystem Controller, each spectral channel can be independently adjusted from off through full output. This allows growers to reduce intensity for seedlings, propagation, or lower light applications and increase output as plants mature.
Instead of only dimming the entire fixture equally, growers can also alter the balance between red, white, and blue wavelengths.
Automated Sunrise and Sunset
The SolarSystem Controller can gradually increase and decrease output at the beginning and end of the photoperiod. These programmable fade transitions simulate sunrise and sunset instead of immediately switching between darkness and full intensity.
California Lightworks allows the duration of these transitions to be programmed as part of a daily lighting schedule.
Advanced Daily Programming
The optional controller supports considerably more than basic on and off scheduling. Up to 20 transition steps can be programmed within a single 24 hour period, allowing the spectrum and intensity to change automatically throughout the day.
Up to 10 individual programs can also be stored and incorporated into longer grow schedules.
Multi Week Lighting Schedules
Saved daily programs can be combined into complete multi week lighting schedules. Up to 10 individual programs can be organized across a growth cycle lasting as long as 24 weeks.
This allows the lighting environment to automatically progress through stages such as propagation, vegetative growth, transition, flowering, and finishing without requiring constant manual adjustments.
Operates With or Without a Controller
The SolarSystem 275 can operate without purchasing the optional controller. In Always On mode, the fixture runs at full output.
When switched into Controller mode, it responds to commands from the SolarSystem Controller and can use programmable dimming, spectrum, and scheduling functions. California Lightworks ships SolarSystem fixtures in Always On mode from the factory.
Daisy Chain Multiple Fixtures
The SolarSystem architecture allows multiple fixtures to be connected into a shared communication network. Standard RJ11 communication cables link one fixture to the next, allowing one controller to manage a complete lighting zone.
This means several SolarSystem 275 fixtures can be distributed across a larger canopy while retaining centralized spectrum and scheduling control.
Active Thermal Management
The SolarSystem 275 uses active cooling fans to manage LED and electronic temperatures. The cooling fans are rated for approximately 50,000 hours and are designed to be user replaceable.
Active thermal management allows California Lightworks to operate the LEDs at high output while helping maintain their expected service life.
50,000+ Hour Components
California Lightworks rates both the LEDs and cooling fans for approximately 50,000 hours or more of service. Unlike HID fixtures, LED operation also eliminates routine lamp replacement during the fixture's normal service life.
This helps reduce maintenance requirements and eliminates recurring purchases of replacement HPS bulbs.
Wide Voltage Compatibility
The SolarSystem 275 operates across approximately 90 to 277VAC, making it compatible with a broad range of residential, commercial, and greenhouse electrical systems. California Lightworks offers both 120V and 240V power cord configurations.
Maximum current draw is approximately 1.65A at 120V and 0.8A at 240V. The fixture operates at 50 to 60 Hz with a power factor greater than 0.95.
Plug and Play Installation
The SolarSystem 275 incorporates its drivers and thermal management into the fixture itself. No external ballast or remote power supply is required for standard operation.
The supplied power cord connects directly to an appropriate electrical receptacle, while the separate communications cable is used when connecting the light to a SolarSystem Controller or additional fixtures.
Made in California
The SolarSystem 275 is manufactured in California by California Lightworks. The fixture is designed as part of the broader SolarSystem lighting ecosystem, allowing smaller and larger fixtures to share the same control and networking architecture.
