California Lightworks SolarSystem 1100 LED Grow Light

The California Lightworks SolarSystem 1100 is an 800W full spectrum LED grow light built for high intensity indoor horticulture and large canopy coverage. Designed as an alternative to traditional 1000W HPS lighting, the SolarSystem 1100 combines high output LEDs with programmable three channel spectrum control, 0% to 100% dimming, active thermal management, and a wide 90 to 277V operating range.

At full power, the current SolarSystem 1100 is rated at approximately 2.51 µmol/J efficiency and approximately 2,010 µmol/s PPF, providing the intensity needed for flowering areas up to approximately 5' x 5' and vegetative areas up to approximately 8' x 8'.

Unlike fixed spectrum LED fixtures, the SolarSystem 1100 can independently control its red, white, and blue spectral channels when paired with the optional SolarSystem Controller. This allows growers to adjust light intensity and spectral balance throughout different growth stages rather than operating from a single fixed spectrum.

Programmable Spectrum Control

One of the defining features of the SolarSystem 1100 is its three channel programmable spectrum system. With the optional SolarSystem Controller, the fixture's primary spectral channels can be independently adjusted:

• Channel 1: Red and Deep Red
• Channel 2: Natural White
• Channel 3: Blue and Deep Blue

Each channel can be adjusted from approximately 0% to 100%, allowing the overall spectrum to be changed according to growth stage, plant response, or facility lighting strategy. The fixture can still operate without the controller, but the controller is required to access the full programmable spectrum capabilities.

Full Spectrum for Vegetative and Flowering Growth

The SolarSystem 1100 is designed for use throughout the complete plant growth cycle rather than requiring separate vegetative and flowering fixtures. Its combination of blue, white, red, and deep red wavelengths supports photosynthesis while allowing growers to modify spectral emphasis as plants progress through different stages.

More blue can be used when tighter vegetative structure is desired, while increasing the red channels allows the spectrum to be shifted toward flowering and fruiting applications.

Approximately 2,010 µmol/s PPF

The current SolarSystem 1100 operates at approximately 800 watts and is rated at approximately 2.51 µmol/J, corresponding to roughly 2,010 µmol/s PPF. This output gives the fixture enough intensity to replace traditional high wattage HID lighting while reducing electrical consumption compared with a 1000W HPS fixture.

California Lightworks specifically positions the SolarSystem 1100 as a 1000W HPS replacement using approximately 40% less energy than traditional HID systems.

Large Coverage Area

The SolarSystem 1100 is designed for larger indoor growing areas.

The larger vegetative footprint reflects the lower light intensity normally required during vegetative growth, while the smaller flowering footprint concentrates the fixture's output over a denser canopy.

0% to 100% Dimming

With the SolarSystem Controller, each spectral channel can be independently dimmed across its available adjustment range. This enables growers to reduce intensity for young plants or lower light applications and gradually increase output as the canopy develops.

Because dimming is managed digitally through the spectrum control system, intensity and spectral balance can be adjusted together rather than simply reducing all wavelengths equally.

Automated Lighting Programs

The optional SolarSystem Controller can automate lighting schedules in addition to adjusting spectrum. Programming functions include sunrise and sunset transitions, daily lighting schedules, weekly programming, seasonal programs, growth stage programs, custom spectrum mixes, and automatic transitions between vegetative and flowering stages.

A single controller can manage multiple compatible SolarSystem fixtures, making the platform scalable from smaller rooms to larger commercial installations.

Chainable Lighting System

Multiple SolarSystem fixtures can be linked into a larger lighting network, allowing growers to manage numerous fixtures from a centralized controller rather than adjusting every light independently.

The communication system uses an RJ11 data connection, and the fixture includes a communications cable for linking compatible SolarSystem equipment.

Active Thermal Management

The SolarSystem 1100 uses active thermal management to control LED operating temperatures. Maintaining proper LED temperatures helps support output consistency and long component life, and the fixture's LEDs and cooling fans are rated for more than 50,000 hours of operation.

The active cooling design also eliminates the need for replaceable HID lamps and the recurring maintenance associated with bulb changes.

Wide Voltage Compatibility

The SolarSystem 1100 features autosensing input voltage from 90 to 277V, allowing it to operate across a broad range of residential and commercial electrical systems. California Lightworks offers both 120V and 240V power cord configurations.

Maximum current draw is approximately 6.6A at 120V and 3.3A at 240V. The fixture operates at 50 to 60 Hz with a power factor greater than 0.95.

Compact Fixture Design

Despite its 800W power draw and large coverage capability, the SolarSystem 1100 measures only 18" x 18" x 4" and weighs approximately 26 lb.

The compact square design keeps the fixture relatively easy to position above a canopy while still housing the LEDs, power electronics, and active cooling system in a single enclosure.

California Lightworks develops its lighting systems, controls, thermal management, and spectrum technology as an integrated platform rather than combining unrelated third party components into a generic fixture.
