Black Dog LED PhytoMAX 4 2S Full Spectrum LED Grow Light

The Black Dog LED PhytoMAX 4 2S brings Black Dog LED’s professional PhytoMAX technology to compact indoor gardens, propagation areas, tents, cabinets, and other spaces where a larger fixture simply is not necessary. Drawing just 125 watts, it produces 266 µmol/s of PBAR photon output from an exceptionally compact 8.5 by 8.5 inch fixture.

Rather than designing the PhytoMAX 4 solely around the highest possible efficiency number, Black Dog LED engineered its proprietary Phyto Genesis Spectrum around plant response. Eight different LED colors provide wavelengths extending beyond conventional PAR into ultraviolet and infrared, creating a broad spectrum designed to support vigorous, compact growth and productive flowering from a single fixture.

Phyto Genesis Full Spectrum Technology

Most LED grow lights rely primarily on white diodes, sometimes supplemented with red. Black Dog LED takes a different approach.

The Phyto Genesis Spectrum uses eight individual LED colors selected to influence photosynthesis and photomorphogenic plant responses. The resulting spectrum extends from ultraviolet through visible PAR wavelengths and into infrared.

Total PBAR output is 266 µmol/s, consisting of:

• PBAR (280–800nm): 266 µmol/s
• UV (280–400nm): 8 µmol/s
• PAR (400–700nm): 238 µmol/s
• IR (700–800nm): 20 µmol/s

Integrated Ultraviolet

Approximately 3% of the spectrum is ultraviolet light below 400nm.

Instead of relying on separate supplemental UV bars, the PhytoMAX 4 integrates UV directly into the fixture so it is distributed alongside the rest of the spectrum throughout the growing area.

Black Dog LED designed this UV component to encourage compact plant development, support natural plant defenses, and promote the production of desirable secondary compounds and pigments.

Violet, Blue, Red & Far Red

The Phyto Genesis Spectrum goes well beyond simply adding UV.

Violet wavelengths from 400 to 450nm are designed to penetrate dense canopies and deliver useful light farther down the plant.

Blue wavelengths from 450 to 480nm support chlorophyll B photosynthesis while helping encourage more compact leaf and plant development.

Red wavelengths from 600 to 700nm provide strong photosynthetic energy.

Far red wavelengths from 700 to 750nm are incorporated in a controlled ratio with red and blue wavelengths to take advantage of photosynthetic responses such as the Emerson Effect without relying excessively on far red.

The result is one integrated spectrum designed for the complete growth cycle.

Active Cooling for Consistent Performance

The PhytoMAX 4 2S uses active cooling rather than relying exclusively on passive heat dissipation.

Keeping LEDs cooler helps maintain efficiency and can extend diode life, which is particularly important for specialty ultraviolet and violet LEDs.

Black Dog LED uses multiple redundant fans in the fixture. The LEDs and fans are both rated for an expected operating life exceeding 70,000 hours.

Despite the active cooling system, the complete fixture measures only 8.5" x 8.5" x 4.5" and weighs approximately 9 lbs.

Fully Dimmable

Built in 0 to 10V dimming provides an operating range from approximately 15% to 100% output.

This allows growers to reduce intensity for seedlings and young plants, gradually increase output as the canopy develops, and run the fixture at full intensity when maximum light is required.

SP vs SC Models

The PhytoMAX 4 2S is available in SP and SC configurations. Light output and core growing technology remain the same, while the electrical connection and supported voltage range differ.

PhytoMAX 4 2SP — Uses a conventional IEC power connection and supports 100 to 250V operation. This is the standard choice for indoor grow rooms, tents, cabinets, and similar controlled environments.

PhytoMAX 4 2SC — Supports 100 to 277V operation and incorporates a locking, water tight power connection, making it better suited to greenhouse and other demanding growing environments.

Power Cord Selection

Choose between a 120V NEMA 5-15 cord or a 240V NEMA 6-15 cord to match your electrical setup. If you are unsure which cord your installation requires, the 120V option is the standard choice for most indoor grow rooms and tents.
