The Black Dog LED PhytoMAX-4 24S is the highest output fixture in the PhytoMAX-4 series, delivering 3,187 µmol/s of total PBAR output from 1500 watts. Designed for large indoor growing areas that require substantial intensity and canopy penetration, the 24S combines Black Dog LED's eight color Phyto Genesis Spectrum with integrated ultraviolet, visible PAR wavelengths, infrared, active cooling, and precise 0 to 10V dimming.
Rather than measuring performance only within the conventional 400 to 700 nm PAR range, Black Dog evaluates the fixture across a broader 280 to 800 nm photobiologically active range. This allows the PhytoMAX-4 24S to deliver ultraviolet and far red wavelengths alongside its primary photosynthetic output.
- Veg Footprint: 6' x 6'
- Flower Footprint: 5' x 5'
- Watts: 1500W
- Spectrum: Full Spectrum
With 672 LEDs, a compact 19" x 19" housing, 15% to 100% dimming, multiple voltage configurations, and a rated mean time before failure exceeding 70,000 hours, the 24S is built for growers who need the highest output available within the PhytoMAX-4 family.
Phyto Genesis Spectrum
Black Dog LED's Phyto Genesis Spectrum incorporates eight LED colors spanning ultraviolet, visible light, and infrared wavelengths.
The PhytoMAX-4 24S produces 3,187 µmol/s of total PBAR output from 280 to 800 nm, consisting of:
-
UV (280–400 nm): 94 µmol/s
-
PAR (400–700 nm): 2,856 µmol/s
-
IR (700–800 nm): 237 µmol/s
This broad spectral approach incorporates ultraviolet and far red wavelengths directly into the primary fixture instead of depending on separate supplemental lighting.
Integrated Ultraviolet
Approximately 3% of the Phyto Genesis Spectrum is ultraviolet light below 400 nm.
Black Dog distributes UV throughout the fixture so ultraviolet wavelengths reach the illuminated growing area alongside the rest of the spectrum rather than being concentrated through separate UV bars.
UV wavelengths can influence photomorphogenic responses associated with plant structure, pigmentation, and natural defense mechanisms.
Because ultraviolet sits outside the conventional 400 to 700 nm PAR range, Black Dog reports its output independently as part of the fixture's broader PBAR measurement.
Violet and Blue Light
The Phyto Genesis Spectrum incorporates two violet wavelengths within the 400 to 450 nm range.
Violet light can penetrate dense plant canopies and provide useful light deeper within plant structure.
Blue wavelengths from approximately 450 to 480 nm contribute to chlorophyll driven photosynthesis and also influence plant morphology. Black Dog balances blue against other parts of the spectrum to encourage compact growth and improve light penetration through the canopy.
Green and Yellow Light
Green and yellow wavelengths from approximately 480 to 600 nm are supplied through broad spectrum white LEDs.
These wavelengths contribute to photosynthesis while creating more natural visible illumination for inspecting plant color and overall condition.
Black Dog balances this portion of the spectrum against stronger blue and red output rather than relying primarily on broad spectrum white LEDs.
Red and Far Red Light
Red wavelengths from approximately 600 to 700 nm provide a major contribution to photosynthesis.
The Phyto Genesis Spectrum incorporates two distinct red peaks and balances them against blue wavelengths to help manage excessive stem elongation.
Far red wavelengths extending beyond 700 nm can influence photosynthetic efficiency through interactions associated with the Emerson Effect.
Together, these wavelengths extend the PhytoMAX-4 24S spectrum beyond conventional PAR on both ends.
3,187 µmol/s From 1500 Watts
The PhytoMAX-4 24S produces 3,187 µmol/s of PBAR output while drawing 1500 watts.
This makes it the highest output model within the PhytoMAX-4 series and gives it the intensity required for larger growing areas.
The fixture is rated for a vegetative footprint of approximately 6' x 6' and a flowering footprint of approximately 5' x 5'.
15% to 100% Dimming
The PhytoMAX-4 24S supports industry standard 0 to 10V dimming and can be adjusted from approximately 15% through 100% output.
This allows a single high output fixture to be operated at lower intensity for younger plants, acclimation periods, or lower light applications, then progressively increased as the canopy develops.
A compatible 0 to 10V controller is required for external dimming control.
Active LED Cooling
The PhytoMAX-4 24S uses active cooling to manage temperatures across its 672 LEDs.
Keeping LED junction temperatures under control can help support operating efficiency and component life, particularly for the specialized ultraviolet and violet LEDs incorporated into the Phyto Genesis Spectrum.
Black Dog uses multiple redundant cooling fans so thermal management does not depend on a single fan.
Expected fan life is rated at more than 70,000 hours, matching the fixture's stated mean time before failure.
Compact High Output Design
The PhytoMAX-4 24S produces more than 3,100 µmol/s of PBAR output from a fixture measuring only 19" x 19" x 4.5".
The manufacturer lists the fixture at 47 lb, so overhead supports and mounting hardware should be appropriately rated for the installed weight.
A pair of V hooks and ratcheting rope hangers are included with the fixture.
SP vs SC Models
The PhytoMAX-4 24S is available in SP and SC configurations.
Both versions provide the same spectrum, wattage, photon output, dimensions, and core lighting performance. The difference is the power connection and supported voltage range.
PhytoMAX-4 24SP — The SP model uses a standard IEC power connection and supports 100 to 250V at 50/60 Hz. Black Dog does not recommend the SP connection for greenhouse environments.
PhytoMAX-4 24SC — The SC model uses a locking, water tight power connection and supports 100 to 277V at 50/60 Hz. This configuration is suited to installations where a more secure electrical connection or compatibility with 277V service is required.
Black Dog also identifies a 347V SX configuration as a special order option.
Electrical Requirements
The PhytoMAX-4 24S draws 1500 watts at full output and has a power factor of 0.99.
Current draw varies according to supply voltage: 100V at 15.0A, 120V at 12.5A, 208V at 7.21A, 230V at 6.52A, 240V at 6.25A, and 277V at 5.42A on the SC model only.
Available power cord configurations include NEMA 5-15, NEMA 6-15, NEMA 7-15 for the SC model, and pigtail configurations.
The included power cord is 8 feet long.
Designed and Assembled in Colorado
Black Dog LED designs and assembles the PhytoMAX-4 series in Colorado.
The PhytoMAX-4 24S contains 672 LEDs and combines high output with active thermal management and a relatively compact enclosure.
Certifications listed for the fixture include UL 1598, UL 8800, ETL, CE, FCC, and RoHS.
Power Cord Selection
Choose between a 120V NEMA 5-15 cord or a 240V NEMA 6-15 cord to match your electrical setup. If you are unsure which cord your installation requires, the 120V option is the standard choice for most indoor grow rooms and tents. Additional configurations, including NEMA 7-15 on the SC model and pigtail options, may be available directly through Black Dog LED for specialized installations.
